Diary of a Red Sox Fan/Yankee Hater

Well, it's time to close the year in the life of a Sox Fan. It was too bad that I was a bit prophetic when I declared that Boston was done at the beginning of August. You could tell that they just didn't have it this year. Oh well, it's been a while since I haven't been able to watch Papi and the boys in October.

The best thing about the year in baseball is that the Yankees are out as well. Sure, they made the playoffs, but only 4 games into their championship run the Yankees are watching the ALCS like the rest of us. I guess I'm a typical Red Sox fan, because I had just as much satisfaction in watching the Yankees lose as I sometimes do watching Boston win. Still, once we we're done for the year the only goal for a true Sox fan is to make sure we sent all our bad karma towards the Yankees. For the past 6 years we've done a good job, and I believe the ARod curse will keep the Yanks down for the next few years as well. Let's start the chant... 2000, 2000.

Thanks for Dropping By...That will be $900

No, it's not what you're thinking. We haven't decided recently to turn our house into a bed and breakfast or a brothel. No, we didn't try to take advantage of Chappo being a rich Easterner in town for a visit. Although I did take advantage of Chappo last night....in a few games of Monopoly. I know I've talked about the greatest board game in the world before, but I can't help it - I'm addicted.

It's actually a funny tradition with my friends. Whenever Jeff or Chappo is in town, we have to get together at least once to play Monopoly. The thing is even though we've known each other since high school, we never started playing Monopoly until after our missions and we were all married. We've played all the different versions: Star Wars, Scooby Doo, the Simpsons, Millenial, even Dog Lovers and yet, we always come back to the original. Last night Ian, Chappo, and I played well into the evening and it all came down to one last game. Let's just say for once the Greens actually worked out and I became Rich Uncle Pennybag for the evening.

U-T-A-H

With Chappo in town, we wanted to get back to the good ol' days and what better way could there be than a Utah football game! Even though I had to miss the last two hours of my parenting class (court mandated for the Foster Parenting with Alex), it was totally worth it! The Utes were coming off an embarrassing loss to Boise on Saturday (36-3) and it was definitely a gut check for the squad. Utah's defense looked awesome and won 20-7 to the delight of my Massachusetts friend. It was the first game we'd been to together since the Dream Season of 2004 and it kept our in-person winning streak alive for another season.

While we were at the game the University unveiled the renovated Block U on the hill. For the past several months they've been gathering money and now, it's finally done. I have to say it looked really cool. They're using LED lights, so when Utah is victorious the U lights up red. Awesome! I'm just glad it was crimson tonight!

Conference Sunday

So I think I set a personal best on Conference Sunday - I didn't get dressed for the day until 4:30 pm. I guess I didn't see the point. With so many Sundays being confined into full suit attire, my body rebelled and took advantage of a necessary day off. To be honest I wouldn't have gotten dressed at all if we didn't have a birthday party last night. How about you, what is your best day in your pj's?!

Portrait of a Young Family

Earlier this week we decided that it would be a good idea to have a new family picture since Alex is the new guy. So yesterday we headed up to Millcreek Canyon to find a nice outdoor spot where we could catch a bit of the Fall colors as the background for the new and improved covili family photo. Unfortunately for us, everyone wanted to catch a look at the reds, oranges, and yellows as well. It was packed!!! So much for going into nature for a little solitude.

Annie was nice enough to agree to be shoot our photos and she really earned her money. I can't believe how hard it is to get two kids to look at a camera and smile. Alex was asleep through most of the pictures and Kennedy decided that she wasn't going to smile, no matter what! As for me, yesterday was 85 degrees and Alicia had me wearing an orange sweater. You can only imagine how much I glistened in the sun. We worked and worked and came up with a few nice shots. In spite of all the hassle, it is nice to capture this period of our lives.
