Our Crazy June

If there was one word to describe the month of June for our family it would be Crazy. June started with Tara having her all day marathon to get her appendix removed, it ended with an all day marathon in the backyard to get the dog run removed. In between we had: Kennedy getting herself 90% potty trained - she still has an occasional accident, but nobody's perfect! Alex has moved from crawling to standing; he's found it's a much better view. Two new teeth have also made their appearance. I've been totally immersed in work (training almost everyday, the college class twice a week, summer rec basketball) and church (in addition to the normal meetings, we had Youth Conference this month). All in all, it's been a month of ups and downs (and a lot of really hot temperatures). Mostly, it's just the start to this year's hectic summer season!

Summer Fun

Summertime is in full swing and the thermometer is definitely proof of that. We've been making the most of the warm weather and spending lots of time outside. We've already been swimming several times and today, we headed to the Murray pool with some neighbor friends for another round in the water. We had lots of fun and too much sun. Kennedy and Alex both love swimming. Kennedy would stay all day if I let her. She loves to jump off the edge of the pool, as long as I am there to catch her. She likes to pretend she is swimming. She will tell me "look mom, I have my eyes and mouth closed." Of course she is still above the water, but at least she's trying. I haven't been able to talk her into going down the water slide this year-something she did many times last year. I'm sure she'll do it eventually. Alex likes to chew on the water toys and chase after them when they get away from him. He is becoming quite the fast crawler, so we have to keep a close eye on him. We are having a great summer so far. We love summer!

95th

Kennedy went to the doctor today for her 30 month checkup and let's just say that she continues to be above normal. We already knew that she wasn't an average child, but the numbers continue to prove it. She is still in the 95th percentile for both height and weight, as she weighs 36 lbs. and is 39 in. tall. To put Kennedy's size into perspective, Chloe weighs 35 lbs. as a 5-yr-old. I don't know if she will always be big for her age, but if she wants to hang out in this family - the trend should continue. Let's just see if Alex can ever catch up!

Standing Tall

Alex has moved from simply crawling around the house to finding things he wants to play with and climbing up to see what's going on. Lately one of his favorite items to explore is Kennedy's kitchen (much to her displeasure). This morning Alex was boiling some water and frying up some bacon. Who knows - maybe he'll end up on the Food Network someday?! Alex and Emeril, could be a winning combination....

Summertime Blues

I don't know if I'm the only one, but it's so hot around Utah right now that it's almost impossible to spend much time outside. I have a whole list of things I need to work on in the yard, but I can't drag myself out to do them. The swingset project has been placed on hold, the sprinkling system still needs to be adjusted, the lawn needs to be mowed, and the patio needs to be cleared off - and yet, I'm just relaxing in the air conditioning, looking out the window.

I think this week has been particularly challenging because of sleep deprivation from Youth Conference - it took me until yesterday to finally start catching up. I heard a great line once about camping/sleeping outside. A man was asked to become the Scoutmaster, to which he replied, "I've never slept in a sleeping bag." When the issue of never camping was investigated further the man stated,"No I've been camping lots of times; I've just never gotten any sleep in a sleeping bag!" That's about how I feel. I love to camp. I just know that I'm only going to get a couple hours of sleep per night. It's impossible to get comfortable when you're laying on the ground. And once you find a good spot, it only lasts for about 45 minutes before you need to readjust. Still, it's the price you pay to be in the Great Outdoors.
