One Month and Counting

Dylan crossed the one month threshold a few days ago and we can't believe how quickly time is passing. With your first child the milestones can't come soon enough (it seemed like an eternity before Kennedy was a month old), but with our other children time just flies by. Of course we didn't have Alex in our home until he was three weeks old, so I guess his one month mile-marker really was fast...

Of all the memorable events of Dylan's first month the thing that stands out most is meal time. Not because he does anything cute or funny, just because of the frequency and the quantity this guy wants to eat. We started out with 2 oz per feeding, but he's now over 4 oz and he really wants 5 or 6 oz each time he eats. He can really put it away!

That's okay with us though. Dylan is developing the cutest chubby cheeks and he is truly a healthy, happy little boy. About the only time he is fussy is when he's really hungry (he's always a little hungry) and now his little personality is starting to come out. Tara is convinced that Dylan is starting to smile. I haven't seen it yet, but maybe that says something about who feeds Dylan more often. I always smile more when someone brings me food!

Alex and Kennedy have really grown to love their little brother. They both take turns holding Dylan - even though they are short turns, as both claim he's too heavy to hold for long. It's been great watching how gentile they are and how interested Alex is around the new baby.



So, one month down - five to go until every thing's official and Dylan will be ours Eternally. We can't wait!

He's a UTAH man!

A few days ago Tara and Kennedy were playing Go Fish. As they went back and forth asking for cards Alex walked into the room and wanted to join the game. He joined Tara's team and immediately Kennedy requested some cards.

Kennedy: "Alex, do you have any 4's?"

Alex: "Huh?"

Kennedy: "Do you have any 4's?!"

Tara: "Alex, tell Dede Go ....."

Alex: "GO UTES!"

There's never been a prouder moment for a dad!

I've gone to Cowboy Grub a handful of times over the past twenty years. It is a good country place with lots of meat and potato type dishes. As you go through the menu one item certainly draws your attention - Best of the Bull.

Now I don't really want to explain this appetizer, but I was dying to try it. Today was the day. We went to the Grub for lunch and the rest is history.

I can safely say that it was fun to try, but I won't become a regular consumer of prairie oysters. A little chewy, pretty bland, and a decent after taste. Still, now I can say I've had the best of the bull....

Music Review: U2 - No Line on the Horizon

Like a lot of you I've been waiting for some time for the new release from U2. The last two albums have contained some great songs and I looked forward to some new tunes from one of my favorite bands. The early release of Get on Your Boots certainly didn't get my hopes up for No Line on the Horizon, neither did the appearance at the Grammys - I just don't get Bono and the eyeliner. So, we bought the CD a few days ago and here are some initial thoughts.

I like the music, particularly the major riff accompanying many of the songs. I think that Edge is in rare form and I really like the backing bass and drum line of several tunes. No Line on the Horizon is a good song and I really like the tune in I'll Go Crazy if I Don't Go Crazy Tonight. White as Snow is a hidden gem on the end of the CD.

I don't get most of the titles of the songs. Here are just a few: FEZ - Being Born, Stand Up Comedy, Get on Your Boots. I just really can't imagine myself saying how much I like the song FEZ - Being Born to a friend. The titles just don't grab you like many of their classics: One, With or Without You, Mysterious Ways. I actually think their song titles have been going down for a while now.

I'm just not that into the lyrics on this album. I think there's a lot of nonsense when you actually read the words in the jacket. I know you can say that about a lot of music, but you tend to expect more from Bono. He seems like an individual of substance and this album certainly needs more of that in it's lyrics. Also, I don't get why Bono seems to spend so time rapping or talking rather than singing on this CD.

Overall, I think No Line on the Horizon is ok. Certainly I liked the past few albums more. Is it better than Zooropa and Pop, yes - but that isn't hard. I've heard several people say that it takes a few listens to really enjoy this album and I hope that's true.

Diary of a Utah/Jazz Fan

My early season predictions for the Jazz and the Utes were grossly underrated (I couldn't even name four players on the U squad). Even if the year has has its ups and downs (November was full of downs) both the Utes and Jazz have been smoking hot in 2009.

The Utes went from a team that lost it's first preseason game to a Div II school I can't even remember to to the co-champs of the Mountain West. I can hardly believe it. Sure, we had a rough end to the regular season, but the Utes performed beyond my wildest expectations. We went from a team with no real identity, to an NCAA tournament lock. I never would have guessed this team could finish with 20 wins and a chance to play in the tourney. Awesome!

The Jazz were a team with huge preseason buzz. Due to injuries and inconsistent play it took until the All Star break to get it together, but they have certainly got it together right now. An eleven game win streak! Wins over LA, Boston, New Orleans, Houston, and Denver. Heck, we've even won a few roads games in the past month. Still, there needs to be some tempered optimism. The Jazz finish with five more road than home games and the West is really close. We could go from division leader to eight seed with a two game losing streak.

Who knows what the next month will bring, but hopefully the Utes can find their way to the second week of the NCAA's and the Jazz can play til June. I can dream, right?!
