Diary of a Jazz Fan

So, the series is tied at 2-2. The Jazz have been in every game, but only managed to win the games in the Energy Solutions Arena. You'd think with our team winning the last two games, there'd be plenty of room for optimism. Truth is I think the Jazz could win the series, but I have a lot of questions about the last 3 games. Here they are in no particular order:

  • Will Carlos Boozer show up in 2 of the next 3 games?

  • Can the Jazz hold the Lakers below 100 pts. or 50% from the field?

  • Who is going to stop Kobe during crunch time?

  • Will anyone give Deron Williams any help during the 4th quarter?

  • Should Kyle Korver play as much in the 2nd half, when he's a liability on D?

  • Can the Jazz win in L.A.?

It's been a fun series and the weekend's games were incredible, but I still believe that the only way the Jazz can win is to step up and play some D. After that, someone has to score besides D - Will in the second half. Other than that - How bout' this Jazz?

Kennedy's Big Day

Saturday was one of those days where we were running from one thing to another all day long. Since Jared had to work and I was on my own most of the day, I was hoping that the kids would handle it all and we wouldn't have any meltdowns. We made it through with only a few tears.

The day started with Kennedy's big dance performance. Kaaren and Chloe joined us for the big performance and luckily, Al took Alex so we didn't have to drag him down there. Of course it was downtown at the Rose Wagner theater and the Race for the Cure walk was going on. So we started looking for parking. Within a couple of minutes we got lucky and someone pulled out right in front of the theater and we got what some of my friends like to call "rock star" parking. Maybe they knew I was the GH queen of my neighborhood. Quite the honor, I know.

Anyway, we got Kennedy in and with just a little resistance she was off with her teacher and we waited for the big perfomance. Kennedy's little class was doing a song called "Little Miss Muffet. They all did so great and Kennedy knew every part of the dance. She was our little star out there and I think she enjoyed being on the stage. I would put some video of it up, but we can never seem to get our video camera to work when we need it. I did manage to get the camera to work, barely, so here are a few pics of our little dancing queen.

After the dance recital, we had to rush home for lunch, change clothes and head off to a soccer game that Kennedy wouldn't play in. She did end up playing for a few minutes on the field and also as the goalie where she actually made a couple of stops. We won't mention how many times she missed the ball, or should I say, chose to miss the ball. But at least she was out there.

After soccer, we had soccer pictures. Since I used to run soccer leagues, I know what a pain this can be, but we managed to get through fairly quickly and Kennedy actually smiled!

All in all it was a fun, busy and exhausting day. I'm proud of Kennedy for how well she did in her dance recital and for trying to play a little soccer. Let's just say that I think soccer will not be in the plans for Kennedy's future. Not sure about dance, but at least she likes it.

Mother's Day Flashback 1993

A few weeks ago I was cleaning out the Bishop's office and I came across a Mother's Day booklet from 1993. It contained thoughts and drawings from all the youth and primary kids. In 93' I was a senior in high school and I took the chance to share my Mother's Day wish to my mom. Here was my work of glory:

I also shared the message : I love my mom because she gives me money! Tugs at the heart strings, doesn't it?!

Pangea Day

It's not often that you can witness a world changing event from your computer, but Saturday was one of those days. Sponsored by TED, Pangea Day was a worldwide film festival designed to bring the world together. For 4 hours we watched films, speakers, and musicians from all corners of the Earth. Their goal - to help us realize that our differences are minimal compared to the vastness of our similarities. The films depict those emotions that we all share: love, despair, joy, and hope. I hope you'll take a moment to watch some of the films or to watch the highlights from the festival.

This was one of my favorites today....

Rockin' Out

Our neighborhood has officially come down with Guitar Hero mania!! I think that most of the 30 somethings in the area have purchased the game and many are addicted. I guess we still qualify as fans, even if it's been a few weeks since we've played. Still, the chance to get together and have a tournament is something too good to pass up. Better yet, the chance to dress as your favorite character and play against friends...

I went as Lars Umlaut. It's safe to say he's the character I most closely identify with. Covers his face with the paint and his body with spikes, the guy really knows how to rock. I tried to channel the spirit of Lars in the tourney earlier and things worked out pretty well. I finished third, even if I couldn't compete with the big dogs.

Tara dressed as a hybrid of Midori and Angus Young. Some school girl, all rocker. She came into the tourney as a favorite and she didn't disappoint. Finishing 4-0 and winning the night as she cruised through the hard version of Black Magic Woman for the victory. She claimed the spoils as well, with a copy of School of Rock for the prize. It was a great night, and thanks go to the Bell's for putting the party together....
