Friday started off with us getting there around 4 pm and spending a couple of hours at the lake before dinner. Normally Kennedy is my little fish and can't wait to get in the water. She just wasn't herself at the lake and barely put a foot in the water. Alex was his normal self and stayed as far away from the water as possible, but loved playing in the sand with his new beach toys. On the other hand, Dylan wouldn't stay out of the water and Jared had to run in after him with his shoes on when he started wading out too deep.
After coming back from the lake, we realized that Kennedy wasn't feeling well. She went right in and laid on the bed all night long, not even coming out to eat Bonnie's yummy spaghetti dinner. She soon had a high fever (not sure how high-forgot the thermometer and any medication that could have helped her). Thanks to Heather for being the pharmacy for us. She had all kinds of good meds to help with the fever. The problem is Kennedy hates taking medicine of any kind. We finally got her to take some and she slept until about 2 am. At two, she woke up and was burning up! She started yelling and screaming gibberish, stuff about squirrels, where are you daddy? (he was right there), and shaking so bad it was almost like a seizure. We finally got her calmed down and awake and after some bribery and tears, she took some more medicine. I have to tell you, I was freaked out. I have never felt a fever this high and I'm pretty sure she was having some kind of fever induced dream or hallucination. It was weird. She woke up a couple of more times during the night, doing the same things, just not as bad and she went right back to sleep.
We woke up the next morning, exhausted, but decided to make the best of it. Kennedy was feeling much better and actually wanted to go to the beach. So we packed up and headed down to the lake. It was a beautiful day, but just a touch on the chilly side, so we all hung out in the sand, making sand castles and burying Jared in the sand. (Yes, those are little boobies that my mom added at the end.) The kids had a blast playing in the sand together.
Dylan was getting tired from the long night and Jared happily took him back to the condo for a nap. I'm pretty sure Jared was okay to volunteer for that duty, as he also got a nap and a few hours of college football in.
The evening consisted of lots of playground time, (we couldn't keep Dylan away from the playground) and just hanging out at the condo, eating and playing card games.
Sunday was a pretty relaxing day. We hung out that morning and went to the late hour of church. After church, we played games with the kids, had a fun treasure hunt and ended the day with a very low key game of in-laws vs. out-laws softball game. (NOT!) I've never heard so much whining from the in-laws! The game was close the whole way and we were leading until the very end but lost it in the last few minutes. The in-laws finally got a win after lots of losing years. We won't mention whose team had six kids (counting all their outs), granny Houtz and six girls (although the girls rocked!) Let's just say that the in-laws teams was 95% men and 0% kids. But really, no hard feelings here!
Monday was supposed to be really cold, but was actually pretty nice. Jared took a group out geocaching and the rest of us went mini golfing.
After mini golf, it was warm enough to go swimming, so we took the kids to the pool before we packed up and headed home. Dylan's suit was already packed, so he got to swim in only his swim diaper. Cute, isn't he!
We had a great Bear Lake trip this year. Thanks, mom and dad for all you do for us! We love you.
