The Return of Big D

Dylan had his 4 month check up yesterday. You may recall that BIg D was in the 95th percentile last time he weighed in and this time he went up! Dylan checked in at 19 lbs and 26 inches for his physical this time. That puts him in the 98th percentile for weight and the 86th percentile for height. The doc says there's nothing to be alarmed about with his size, but we need to keep an eye out to make sure the height and weight don't continue to grow apart.

Right now the only thing we're worried about is playing with our big boy's fun rolls. Soon enough the weight will start to come off, as he eats solids and starts crawling. For now, let's just have fun with the wonder we call Big D.

Diary of a Red Sox Fan

Following the Red Sox has been a lot different this year. For the past four seasons Tara and I have splurged during baseball season and purchased the TV package so we could watch Boston play. This year we decided to cut back, so I'm forced to follow the games online or through the new MLB Network (this channel has become somewhat of an obsession over the past two months).

Even though I can find the scores online, It's nice when the Sox show up on national television. This week the Yankees were in Boston so I was able to watch parts of Tuesday and Wednesday's games. The Red Sox have had an interesting season to this point. The starting pitchers haven't performed to the level of expectation, the hitters (outside of of Pedroia, Bay, and Youkilis) have been average at best, and Big Papi hasn't even shown up yet - he was hitting below .200 with 2 homers at the beginning of the week.

This leads us to the series with the Yankees. Boston has owned the Yankees this season. 5 - 0 so far going into this series. Even though Tuesday and Wednesday night's game had my stomach in knots, the Sox prevailed each game and now we've gone 8-0 against the New York Yankees. Sometimes you just have a team's number. Will it last? Probably not. Still I like the Sox chances anytime we see a member of the NY bullpen. Last night Boston was down 3-1 in the 8th inning, when they staged a 3 run rally off the Yankees relievers to seal the sweep.

Even though I can't watch as many games this year I do have one ace in the hole as a Sox fan. In two weeks I get to watch Boston live. We'll be on the east coast for a conference and the Red Sox are only 35 minutes away. I can't wait!

Double Feature

Last week Tara and I did something unheard of for the past couple of years - we went to the movies, twice, in one week. Sure we maxed out our babysitters for the next month or so (thanks Mom and Dad), but it was so nice to head to the Megaplex for a show.

On Thursday Tara and I saw Angels and Demons, the latest Dan Brown/ Ron Howard / Tom Hanks adventure. We both really like the book and it was fun to see it brought to life. Now, I read the book about 3 years ago so I have to say that I really couldn't remember a lot of the twists and turns. Still, it's nice to escape into an action/ adventure movie for a break from reality. Is it better than Da Vinci Code? No - but if you liked the one you'll probably like the other. Just remember to suspend reality for the last hour or so and you'll be good to go.

Saturday was the true movie event of the week. We packed up Kennedy and Alex and headed off to see Up. What a great movie. I have to say I think I would rather watch the Pixar / Dreamworks movies that most of the other stuff around today. I loved how Up profiled the couple at the beginning of the film. Even though it was a bit sad, it was great to show kids all the different phases of life. The rest of the movie was really fun. The characters that Pixar dreams up are awesome - I absolutely loved the chubby little cub scout, Russell. Even though I HATE balloons go see this one, it will truly make you smile.

Look at the Bright Side

A few days ago Tara and I had an interesting conversation about Alex.

Do you know what your son did today?

No.

He pulled down his pants and pooped.

Awesome, we've been waiting for him to use the potty.

I didn't say anything about the potty. He pooped in the backyard.

Oh...Well, look at the bright side, at least he started pulling down his pants to poop.

I guess, but you didn't have to pick it up with the shovel.

Who knew potty training a boy could be so much fun!

Believe it or not, Kennedy was actually having fun on the swings!
