Still Moved

It's been a little less than 24 hours and I still feel incredibly moved by the events of last evening. Few issues in this world attract my spirit like equal rights and fairness for all. As I watched the walls of the racial divide crack last night, I was overwhelmed with emotion. Seeing men and women from around world express their joy and being overcome with emotion is something I'll never forget. Hearing people whisper, "I never thought I would see the day when an African American could be elected President." Then watching the tears stream down their cheeks.

I'll admit - I couldn't keep the tears back either. This is more than an election, more than a vote - this is a movement, a chance for our country to validate that collectively, we can overcome the past and embrace our future. My friend Lisa had a great quote on her blog:

Watching History

As I sat watching the results coming in tonight on CNN I was cautiously optimistic. Regardless of the polls, you never know how people are going to vote when given an anonymous ballot. Still, I have believed that the American people were ready to make a change from the past and look to the future. From the first time I heard Barack Obama speak, I knew there was something different about him. His voice rang with optimism in a time of cynicism. He represents what I love about our country.

When the news came across at 9 pm: Barack Obama is the next President of the United States, I was speechless. For months I've followed this election and
tonight showed the best of America. We are a people who believe in the hope of tomorrow. A country where anything is possible and everyone has a chance to succeed. I truly believe that an Obama presidency will give a voice to the voiceless, an example to the next generation, and the dawning of a new day in America.

I think I still need some time to adequately express myself about what tonight means to me and our country. Suffice it to say - Yes We Can!

Election Prediction

Rather than writing a drawn out post about how each state will vote tomorrow, here's a look at my prediction.


Popular vote: Obama 51% McCain 46%

After days of watching CNN and hours spent following the election on the web, I think the swing states that may vote for McCain are relatively few. In spite of the "Bradley Effect" I think this election won't be very close. Still, I've been wrong before - eight years ago I went to bed thinking Al Gore was president.

Halloween Hangover

I'm still recovering from all the candy the kids got this year. What - you don't take a occasional dip into the treat bag?! I guess it's a good thing that it's fast sunday so I can let my body find some sense of normalcy. Despite my diet's objections, Halloween was a lot of fun this year.

Kennedy has always clued into this holiday as a favorite. She figured out pretty early that free candy is FREE CANDY! This year she paraded around the area in her fairy princess costume; proudly telling everyone she was Tinkerbell. I'm glad she finally had fun dressing up. For the past few years she hasn't really liked wearing a costume, but the drama queen has figured out that a Diva must bring her A game.

Alex didn't understand the whole idea of why he was being asked to wear green tights. But once he realized people gave you treat by looking cute, he was on board. We couldn't get him to wear his hat, and the play dagger didn't last long - but he certainly had a good night.

I can honestly say that I've never seen so much candy. Between the Trunk or Treat and Halloween night our kids have gallon bags full to the brim. I just hope the dentist doesn't read our blog...

NaBloPoMo is back!

For the past few weeks this blog has been languishing in apathy. I haven't really been inspired to write much and the things I have written have been uninspired and mundane (that's three "five dollar words in two sentences - not bad). I've wanted to write more, but most of what I've done over the past few weeks involved work and CNN. Rather than bore all of you with my political mantra each day, I've stayed relatively silent.

But now, along comes NaBloPoMo, my chance to write everyday, about whatever I want. I really love November for the challenge of posting thirty times in thirty days. Get ready - you're about to learn more about me than you ever thought possible. Aren't you all lucky?
