Spring Cleaning

Today we packed up the van and headed over to the church for a little spring cleaning. Every few months we get the "opportunity" to clean parts of the building as a service project. We think it's a great way for our kids to get in there and help outside of our home.

Surprisingly enough, they really liked helping (for a while). We vacuumed, scrubbed toilets, dusted, and cleaned the chapel as part of our morning. I guess it's only fair that we helped clean the ward, after all we're the ones who mess it up every Sunday.

Easter Prep

Tonight we got ready for Easter by having the kids dye their eggs. I think I get the best deal on this ritual. They boil the, dye them, and decorate them - then I eat them. Sounds good to me.

Trading Places

Last weekend brought some big changes to the sleeping arrangements in our home. We had been planning to play "musical rooms" for some time now, but Dylan's recent night time escapes from his crib moved our schedule up by several months. We decided that drastic measures would have to take place.

d's big boy bed
Dylan needed a big boy bed. It's one thing for him to climb out of his crib, but the problem is he can't climb back into the crib. Tara was rounding him up every night to put him to bed. The pitter padder of tiny feet isn't quite as cute at 2 am as you might imagine.

Once Dylan got a new bed, Alex was also in line for some new sleeping digs. He's been using a hand-me-down bed for the past couple of years and it was time to upgrade. The easy solution was to buy bunk beds for the boys and have them share the same room. They liked the idea of sharing a room, but Alex did not want to sleep on the top bunk. We decided to separate the beds and give each of our guys half of the room.

new bed
It's been a couple of days and the reviews are mixed. Both boys like their new beds, but Alex isn't sure about his new roommate. Dylan likes to talk when they go to bed, Alex wants to sleep. We'll have to see how this one works its way out. I think the novelty of sharing a room will wear off on D and then he'll settle in.

Kennedy made the biggest upgrade in our "trading spaces". Rather than sharing a room with someone, she's now all on her own. She moved down the hall to her very own room and she couldn't be happier. We were worried that she might get scared and not sleep alone, but she hasn't minded a bit.

I think we got the best deal in all the room switching. With all the kids being downstairs, Tara and I feel like empty nesters as we now have the upstairs all to ourselves. It's wonderful!

Mr. Yogurt

It's so interesting to discover the little quirks about each of your kids. Whether it's the way they sleep, or the funny things they say every one has their little personality traits that help make them unique. Over the past month or so we've noticed something about Dylan that kind of sets him apart from the other kids.

mr yogurtHe likes yogurt.

A lot.

If we buy a dozen yogurts he will eat eight of them - in a day or so.

The funny thing isn't just that he likes yogurt. He also has an interesting method for eating his treat.

With a measuring spoon.

I can't say I totally understand his little habit. But it is certainly something that makes Dylan different....

Conference Breakfast

With several inches of snow, no church to go to today, and a few hungry kids we decided to make a special Conference breakfast.

While we were at it, I broke out the Flip camera and a movie was born. I absolutely love the movie trailer feature in the iMovie 11'. This project took less than ten minutes to build!

With that, I give you Breakfast - The Movie
