Last weekend brought some big changes to the sleeping arrangements in our home. We had been planning to play "musical rooms" for some time now, but Dylan's recent night time escapes from his crib moved our schedule up by several months. We decided that drastic measures would have to take place.
Dylan needed a big boy bed. It's one thing for him to climb out of his crib, but the problem is he can't climb back into the crib. Tara was rounding him up every night to put him to bed. The pitter padder of tiny feet isn't quite as cute at 2 am as you might imagine.
Once Dylan got a new bed, Alex was also in line for some new sleeping digs. He's been using a hand-me-down bed for the past couple of years and it was time to upgrade. The easy solution was to buy bunk beds for the boys and have them share the same room. They liked the idea of sharing a room, but Alex did not want to sleep on the top bunk. We decided to separate the beds and give each of our guys half of the room.
It's been a couple of days and the reviews are mixed. Both boys like their new beds, but Alex isn't sure about his new roommate. Dylan likes to talk when they go to bed, Alex wants to sleep. We'll have to see how this one works its way out. I think the novelty of sharing a room will wear off on D and then he'll settle in.
Kennedy made the biggest upgrade in our "trading spaces". Rather than sharing a room with someone, she's now all on her own. She moved down the hall to her very own room and she couldn't be happier. We were worried that she might get scared and not sleep alone, but she hasn't minded a bit.
I think we got the best deal in all the room switching. With all the kids being downstairs, Tara and I feel like empty nesters as we now have the upstairs all to ourselves. It's wonderful!
